A brief History of RAJWA
The first meeting of the Justices Association of W.A. was held in the Justices Room Police Court on Monday 20th June 1916 at the invitation of Mr. F. D. Good. Twenty nine Justices attended. The annual subscription was set at £1-1-0. The first General Meeting was called for 14th September 1916.
Mr. Good was the first President and served till 1918. Mr. H. Casper was the first Registrar and served in that position for 35 years. Upon his retirement his son Mr. A Casper became Registrar and served for another 25 years. Here was a father-son combination extending over a period of 60 years.
The Association was incorporated on the 5th March 1917. The first Annual General Meeting was held at the Savoy Hotel ay Street on Monday 25th February 1917. Of the 1500 Justices of the Peace in the State 241 were members of the Association. By the next Annual General Meeting in February 1918 there were 458 members.
The Annual Report of 1939 shows a successful year marred by the outbreak of war in Europe.
Royal Patent:
In 1963 the Royal Patent was considered by Council. As from 1st April Her Majesty the Queen approved that the “Royal” prefix be accorded the Association.
